featured this week as a domestic violence expert on the BBC News program, 'World
Have Your Say'. The topic of discussion was a new proposal in the U.K for 'safe
rooms' that would allow victims to remain in their home while being protected from
their batterer. These rooms would be fitted with CCTVs, reinforced doors and
windows, mortise locks and panic alarms.

While Angel, who is also chair of the North Carolina Domestic Violence Commission,
was one of several panelists in the discussion, she was the only one representing
the U.S. Other panelists were from India, the U.K., Brazil, and South Africa. "It
was very exciting for me to be involved in discussing ways countries around the
world are trying to combat domestic violence and help victims," says Angel.

On 'World Have Your Say', which draws over 30 million listeners worldwide, Angel
referred to a domestic violence incident in western North Carolina. She commented
that safe rooms are only one protective measure to consider, arguing abusers will
attack a victim elsewhere and using the September murder of a woman at a shelter in
Sylva, N.C as an example.
